Webinar #77 “COVID-19 Boosters na, Mix-and-Match ba?”
Special Topic
The news and social media is awash with information on boosters, third shots, mix and matching of vaccines. As the Philippines begins to secure larger volumes of vaccines to reach more people, the question of giving an additional dose of the vaccine to improve protection of the population has come into play.
What is a booster and why is it different from a third shot? Can one receive additional vaccination of another brand or type? Do we have enough vaccines in the country to create a good level of protection in the population to bring transmission rates so low that we will not be fearful of a resurgence? What is the best vaccination schedule for front line health workers?
In this episode of STOP COVID DEATHS entitled, “COVID-19 Booster na, Mix-and-Match ba?,” we explore these words and phrases – what these terms mean, and how a solid COVID-19 vaccination program can be sustained over the long haul. Dr. Eric Domingo, Undersecretary for Health and Director-General of the Philippine Food and Drug Administration, will provide the main presentation. Dr. Marie Carmela Lapitan, Professor of Clinical Epidemiology, will talk about the science behind additional vaccination for frontliners. Dr. Christia Padolina, City Health Officer of Navotas, will give a perspective from Local Governments and will touch on the challenges on the ground in deploying the new supplies in a timely manner. Opening Remarks will be by Dr. Ted Herbosa, Special Adviser to the National Task Force Against COVID-19, will provide the ‘big picture” – vaccine supplies, positive and negative experiences in the roll-out and the importance of vaccinating frontliners. Synthesis and Closing Remarks will be by Dr. Carmencita D. Padilla, Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Manila.
