UP TALKS | Modular Systems of Numbers | Dr. Carlene Arceo
Modular Systems of Numbers
Carlene P.C. Pilar-Arceo, Ph.D.
Dr. Arceo is a Professor at the Institute of Mathematics, University of the Philippines Diliman. She majored in Mathematics throughout her Baccalaureate and graduate degrees, all of which she obtained from UP Diliman. For her MS Applied Mathematics degree, she focused on Operations Research. For her PhD Mathematics degree, she focused on Partial Differential Equations.
She did research for her dissertation at Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan under a 2-year Monbusho grant. Over the years, her teaching and research interests have come to include Mathematical Modeling / Mathematical Biology and the history and popularization of Mathematics. A true advocate of the subject, she teaches General Education Mathematics each and every semester as she believes that Math is a subject everyone should at least appreciate, if not enjoy, and that it is an intrinsic part of humankind’s history, culture and everyday experience.
She speaks on this as often as she can at local and international venues. She wants students to welcome and look forward to joining a Math class. She wants them to, one day, be as fascinated about Math as she has been, and even more.
