Webinar #76 “WORK BUBBLES: Ligtas ba sa COVID-19 ang ating mga Workers?”
Special Topic

As the economy slowly starts to reopen and workers return to jobs, there is concern about safety. Industries are claiming they are providing for sufficient health standards, testing and vaccination where applicable. But the question still remains, are we doing enough to protect our workers? What are the industries at risk? What specific measures are needed to provide optimum protection to our workforce?

The mental health aspects of returning to work are daunting. There is fear about getting infected in the workplace and bringing it back to the home. There is concern that workers may get infected en route to their jobs using public transportation. There is anxiety about loss of income, benefits, and safety nets.

How can the workplace be made safer? What are best practices from the Philippines that can be shared within the country? In this episode of STOP COVID DEATHS, we will discuss occupational health and workers safety in relation to COVID-19. We will take a closer look at the psychosocial and mental health dimensions of workers health, what has been done, what we can do to recover from the economic hardship of COVID-19.

The main presentation will be made by Dr. Joselito Gapas of First Philippine Holdings Corporation, an expert in occupational health and safety, who will present a case study that can be used as a reference point for workers safety. Dr. Gigi Alampay of the Ateneo Center for Organization Research and Development (CORD) will share the latest research on mental health of workers. We will also hear reactions from Dr. Rosalie V. Rivera from Shell Companies in the Philippines and Dr. Paul Michael R. Hernandez from the UP Manila College of Public Health Dept. of Environmental & Occupational Health. The episode is co-sponsored by the Philippine College of Occupational Medicine, Inc.
