e-LEKSIYON:TAMING TECH TITANS?

Filipinos are digitally immersed in a cascade of news and information. And the COVID-19 pandemic has amplified changes in our systems, allowing the migration of election campaigns to online avenues like social media.
Networked environments and digital technologies mediate politics and public discourse. But in platforms where greater access thrives, so could false information, fake accounts, troll farms, and “networked political manipulation” in which undecided voters might be more susceptible.
What ideas influence our votes? How sure are we that voters are getting the accurate political information in order to make an informed decision at the polls? Are tech giants responsible for gatekeeping information on campaigns and candidates? “E-leksiyon: Taming Tech Titans” will be the eighth webinar under the National Forum on Communication and Democracy: Philippine Elections 2022 series, organized by the Philippines Communication Society (PCS) in cooperation with the University of the Philippines’ Internet TV Network, TVUP.
Join project co-leads of the Digital Public Pulse Fatima Gaw and Ben Bunquin, and Roy Tan, the Politics & Government Outreach Manager in Asia-Pacific of Meta, as they discuss the impact of the technology giants in amplifying or limiting information flow during the election season.
The webinar and online forum, to be moderated by TV5’s Roby Alampay, will be held via Zoom and broadcast live on the Facebook pages of PCS and TVUP and on TVUP’s YouTube channel at 12 noon on March 9, 2022.
