Experts will discuss how data and analytics will play a big role in the 2022 election campaign in a free webinar to be moderated by veteran journalist Ed Lingao on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022, at 12 noon.

The webinar, titled “Data and Sentiment Analysis: Going Beyond Surveys,” will be the seventh under the National Forum on Communication and Democracy: Philippine Elections 2022 series, organized by the Philippines Communication Society (PCS) in cooperation with the University of the Philippines’ Internet TV Network, TVUP.

Resource persons include Prof. Victor Andres “Dindo” Manhit, founder and managing director of the Stratbase Group and president of the ADR Institute for Strategic and International Studies (ADRi), who specializes in strategic studies and management, legislative research, and public policy analysis; and economist, political analyst, and businessman Andrew Masigan, who writes a column for BusinessWorld and the Philippine Star.

Also invited to speak in the webinar is Gemma Bagayaua-Mendoza, a multimedia journalist and editor at Rappler, who will talk about how data has shaped Rappler’s election campaign coverage.

The moderator, Ed Lingao, is a broadcast journalist at TV5 and one of the hosts of the program, “The Chiefs.” Lingao is a former multimedia director of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, news manager of TV5, and chief of reporters of the Manila Times.

UP College of Mass Communication (CMC) Dean Dr. Arminda Santiago will deliver the opening remarks while PCS President Dr. Elena Pernia, the UP vice president for public affairs and former UP CMC dean, will give a synthesis of the discussions.

The webinar will be held via Zoom and broadcast live on the Facebook pages of PCS and TVUP and on TVUP’s YouTube channel at 12 noon on Feb. 9, 2022.
