Webinar #66 “Lambda Naman Ngayon! Variants and Vaccines”

Special Topic

As the Delta Variant of SARSCov2 sweeps the globe and makes its way to the Philippines, recently the Lambda Variant has been reported. Should we be concerned? What do we need to do differently?

The Lambda Variant is reported to have started in Peru and is reported to also be highly infectious. It is considered a ‘variant of interest’ (compared to the Delta Variant – which is a ‘variant of concern’).

Not a lot is known about the Lambda Variant and at the moment of writing there is not enough evidence to gauge its infectivity or virulence. Neither is there clear evidence of ineffectiveness of current vaccines to this strain.

One thing is certain: Unless an overwhelming majority of our people are vaccinated, this virus will keep on mutating. The way to stop mutations is to achieve high levels of vaccination coverage.

In this episode of STOP COVID DEATHS – join us as we explore information on the Lambda Variant from Prof. Cynthia P. Saloma, PhD of the Philippine Genome Center. Dr. Teodoro J. Herbosa, Special Adviser to the National Task Force against COVID-19 will provide an update on vaccination implementation. Felix Dan Lopez will talk about the work in the private sector, Cebu Pacific Air, that is responsible for transporting vaccines. Dr. Noel Bernardo of the Philippine Red Cross will share the work of the foremost humanitarian organization in the country. Opening remarks will be by UP Vice President for Public Affairs, Prof. Elena E. Pernia, PhD.

Stay Safe. Stay Healthy. Stay Connected!
Together we can STOP COVID DEATHS!
