The University of the Philippines will confer its highest honor, the Doctor of Laws (honoris causa) to Amb. Edgardo B. Espiritu (’55). A graduate of the UP College of Law in 1958, Amb. Espiritu has been at the head of several of the country’s leading financial institutions such as Metrobank, the Philippine National Bank, and Westmont Bank.
Amb. Espiritu also helped guide the country navigate the Asian Financial Crisis as Secretary at the Department of Finance in 1998; served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, and Iceland; and oversaw the construction of the buildings like the Ang Bahay ng Alumni as the longest serving UP Alumni Association President
