UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

Formally approved by the Board of Regents during its 1337th meeting on August 30, 2018, the University of the Philippines Symphony Orchestra (UPSO) now serves as the official system-wide orchestra of the University of the Philippi;nes, supported by the UP System Fund and hosted by the UP College of Music.

Under the direction of Prof. Josefino Chino Toledo, the orchestra consists of 65 members coming exclusively from within the UP community; the roster includes 24 alumni, 34 students, 6 members of the faculty and 1 from staff. These musicians were meticulously selected from a rigorous audition process that saw 106 applicants that represents three campuses — Diliman, Los Baňos and Manila. UPSO functions as a training orchestra for young conductors, a laboratory orchestra for Filipino composers and a repertory orchestra for musicians, and aims to represents the University and the country on the worldwide stage. The orchestra aims to mount at least six major concerts every season.
