Introduction to Cultural Performance: The Philippine Context | Dr. Sir Anril Tiatco
Sir Anril Pineda Tiatco earned his Ph.D. in Theatre Studies from the National University of Singapore. He was a visiting scholar at the Research Institute for Cosmopolitan Cultures in the University of Manchester from August 2012 to February 2013. His research works on Philippine traditional theatre performances, rituals, festivals, and contemporary theatre (particularly the National Capital Region) have appeared in Asian Theatre Journal, Journal of Homosexuality, Philippine Humanities Review, Humanities Diliman, Kritika Kultura, JATI: Journal of Southeast Asian Studies, Social Science Diliman, TDR: The Drama Review, and Modern Drama.
He is the author of Entablado: Theaters and Performances in the Philippines (2015, UP Press), Performing CatholicismL Faith and Ambivalence in a Philippine Province (2016, UP Press), and the forthcoming Theatre, Cosmopolitanism, and the Philippines: Performing Community in a World of Strangers. An associate professor at the UP Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts, he was conferred the title of University Artist II by the UP Arts Productivity System.
