Dr. Rhodora V. Azanza
Dr. Rhodora V. Azanza, Professor of the Marine Science Institute, University of the Philippines – Diliman and Academician, National Academy of Science and Technology has served the University in various positions including being the first woman dean of the College of Science – Diliman . She has been one of the members for 7 years of the International Seaweed Association Council, a rare post occupied by a woman. Dr. Azanza has 170 publications in international books and journals. She has extended her expertise to government agencies and international organizations, concurrently being the vice-chairman of UNESCO-Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) Panel on Harmful Algal Blooms (IPHAB) and leader of IOC’s Harmful Algal Blooms in Southeast Asia (HABSEA) Portal and e-learning for 7 years. The ASEAN Red Tide Network, has been coordinated by Dr. Azanza for more than 10 years. She has been actively involved in the production and dissemination of UNESCO-IOC HAB information and educational materials. Dr. Azanza received numerous scientific awards which include the 2013 UPAA lifetime Distinguished Achievement Awards from the UP Alumni Association. Recently she has been named as the 2015 DOST-PCAARRD Pantas Awardee for Most Outstanding Researcher/Scientist. At present she is an Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs and Director of the Office of International Linkages (OIL) of the University of the Philippines. The University’s Board of Regents has approved her appointment as Professor Emeritus upon her retirement in 2017.
