WHAT IS A SPECIES, REALLY?
Dr. Ian Kendrich Fontanilla
Dr. Fontanilla has been actively working in the academe for 19 years and is currently holding position at the Institute of Biology in UP Diliman as an Associate Professor.
He earned his doctoral degree in Genetics in 2010 at University of Nottingham, UK and since then has written and co-written numerous scientific papers, journal articles and conference proceedings published during his entire career. He also holds professional memberships in various organizations such as the Unitas Malacologia, Malacological Society of the Philippines, Philippine Environmental Mutagen Society, Philippines Society for the Study of Nature, Philippine Society for Developmental Biology, Philippine Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Phi Sigma Biological Sciences Honor Society.
His astounding work as an educator and prolific researcher has earned him several grants and awards for various projects both locally and abroad such as the UP Scientific Productivity System Award (UP Scientist I), UP Diliman Centennial Faculty Grant, John Burch Award for Best Undergraduate Thesis in Malacology, Most Outstanding MS Biology Graduate, and the National Academy of Science and Technology Outstanding Young Scientist.
