MAIKLING PELIKULA
Project Weekling
Jan Michael C. Jamisola
Carlos is a socially-inept preteen who has a long-time obsessive crush for Cheryl, the quiet, achieving student suddenly turned campus sweetheart. One day, he writes in his diary that he has made an important decision: he is going to try to ask for Cheryl’s hand in the course of one week, amidst the enormous odds against him presented by his timid calculating personality and by the gang of machismic school jocks, whose leader has his eye on Cheryl as well.
A story about a boy and his diary’s week-long attempt to woo the girl of his dreams, PROJECT WEEKLING treads the usual baggage of the romantic comedy with an awareness of the unrealistic romantic advice it might inadvertently preach.
JAN MICHAEL C. JAMISOLA is a freelance filmmaker. His short films are all bound by one common factor – they are all comedies. He is a proud graduate of the University of the Philippines Film Institute, and is prouder still to take on the world outside academics and learn directly from the root of great stories. Currently, JM works in post-production, studying the foundations of the film form from behind the scenes, and continues to explore both filmmaking and comedy through writing, watching, and observation.
MAIKLING PELIKULA is a program featuring outstanding and award-winning short films. Likewise to be featured will be a discussion and annotation by the director-filmmaker. The program will highlight the experimental and narrative genres of film.
