Dr. Jose Florencio F. Lapeña

Dr. José Florencio Lapeña, Jr. is Professor of Otorhinolaryngology of the College of Medicine and former Vice Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Manila, Attending Otolaryngologist at the Philippine General Hospital, and University Scientist III of the UP System with special interests in pediatric aero-digestive surgery, cleft and craniofacial surgery, medical education, mentoring and journalology.

He holds B.A. Honours (Philosophy & Letters), M.A. Social Sciences (Sociology) and M.D. degrees and completed his Postgraduate Residency in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery as Chief Resident at the PGH, UP Manila, and Postgraduate Clinical Fellowships in Paediatric Otolaryngology, Cleft & Craniofacial Plastic Surgery at the Royal Children’s Hospital, University of Melbourne.

He is Editor-in-Chief of the Philippine Journal of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, President of the Philippine Association of Medical Journal Editors (PAMJE), immediate past President of the Asia Pacific Association of Medical Journal Editors (APAME) and Director of the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME). He is a nationally and internationally recognized, widely-published expert with numerous citations and awards, consultancies and speaking engagements, and is actively engaged in teaching and training surgeons and researchers, and in serving the underserved.
